WELCOME TO HUGOT SUGAR TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY
Where your future begins! Our teaching and research laboratory's mission is to transfer basic, technological and advanced knowledge in the area of Sugar Technology, Carbohydrate Chemistry and Phytochemistry. Created in January 2009, the Hugot Sugar Technology Laboratory seeks to improve analytical techniques and optimize and search for process solutions in the crystal sugar production chain based on the integrated assessment of the quality of sugarcane and more recently, reactions involving sugars and others natural compounds.
Activities developed by the lab:
- Provide technical and scientific assistance to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as collaborating researchers in the field of sugar and sugar-chemical technology;
- Chemical characterization of sugarcane as raw material for sugar industry, mainly those reactions involved in enzyme or non-enzyme browning;
- Chemical characterization of lignocellulosic biomass (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignins) as renewable platform for food and energy industries.
